The highway runs across Kubuqi Desert, being 65.5 km in length. In early 1999, with the approval of the government, Elion Resources Group rebuilt the original gravel road into a level II road of asphalt concrete, and the road was open to traffic at the same year. 

It is an important transportation hub connecting Baotou, Erdos and Hohhot, which plays an irreplaceable role in the implementation of the Elion’s strategy of leading desert green economy and expanding human living space.
