In 2020, the “double restoration” will be carried out in counties and cities nationwide. Through “double restoration”, the urban problems can be effectively tackled, with restoration of urban ecology and improvement in urban functions and landscape.   According to the plan of related departments, by 2030, significant results will have been achieved in the  “double restoration”  nationwide, with the transition to intensive development model of cities.   In addition, according to the Guidelines, it is imperative to modify and improve the overall urban planning, make preparation for renewal of old urban areas , ecological protection and construction, and determine the overall spatial pattern and ecological protection construction requirements. Develop specific plan for ecological restoration projects and strengthen the coordination with urban green space system and water system. Vigorously improve the ecological environment, carry out water body control and restoration, and restore wasted land. Improve the green space system, and systematically restore the rivers, lakes, and wetland systems on the basis of comprehensive control of black and odorous water. In this regard, Yang Baojun, China Academy of Urban Planning and Design, said that at present, China's urban development is in urgent need of transformation, with development goals to be amended and the development concept to be updated. He added, urban development shall pay more attention to culture, ecology, people’s livelihood and characteristics. The “double restoration” does not mean accomplishing the whole task at one stroke, but rather conducting sustained action.
